Djokovic Issues Warning to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Hang Over Him Like a "Shadow"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will linger over his career like a "cloud" – while also questioning the timing of the penalty in the previous season.
The Ban Explained
Sinner completed a three-month prohibition in February 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency accepted his explanation that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," Djokovic stated in an interview on a popular YouTube program.
"It's just something that, it was so significant, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will continually reference the incident."
The Champion's Viewpoint
The Serbian player stated that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the Italian managed to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.
"There is the lack of transparency, the irregularity, the convenience [of] the ban coming between the slams, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," Djokovic added.
