We'll Name the Best Title of the Gaming Era: Final Four
These last 48 hours have been nothing short of dramatic. This past Monday, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a tournament to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. You were given eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to face off against each other, all heading towards a final showdown where the leading contender from each platform would battle it out. We've witnessed some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's moment to decide the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.
The PS5 Side
On the PS5 side, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected considering that it took home the top prize at last year’s Game Awards, but its win against God of War Ragnarök seems like a major shock. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the final four, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to secure a spot in the final four. Will Spider-Man defeat a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he destined to become a miniature appearance in the next Astro Bot game?
The Xbox Series X Side
The Xbox Series X side has been even juicier. Emerging victorious from a more eclectic field of competitors is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the open-world driving game so far, proving that a more specialized genre game earns to be on the same pedestal as traditional jump-and-run games and story-driven epics. Its final obstacle en route to the finals is a big one, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has shown itself as a crowd favorite, beating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a larger-scale title from an established IP that's synonymous with the Xbox brand? Should anyone manage this feat, it's probably Indy.
Cast your votes to determine the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games of this era, and return on the next day to see who will be competing for the grand prize in the championship round!
